After a few weeks of drawing and erasing, we have come up with our own style and creativity but yet the strength and durability that’s needed! This is a 90% finished drawing of our Prerun/Race Trailing arms. Stay up to date with us as we get them welded, fitted/installed, and proven!!

After racing Battle at Primm in February, a customer had brought us a truck that had a few problems. One of his biggest problems is his Ibeams were bending and causing them to come up and hit other things like his beam pivots and his bumpstops were no longer landing on the pad. So we sat down and designed a completely custom “Race Style” DFMS Ibeam kit. After a week of finishing touches we had all the parts and welded them together. There made from 3/16″ chromoly plate, all 1 1/4″ heims, 1 1/2″ uniballs, custom spindles, and fully adjustable ride height for more precise customer tuning. With such a short timeline between races we didnt have time to make him some DFMS trailing arms. While we were working on the truck at the shop, we shipped the trans to Culhane Transmissions in California.  We got the transmission back on a Tuesday afternoon. After putting it in we took the truck out for a 20 mile quick test so we can shake it down. Everything went perfect! Brought it back and did a quick prep for the race on then headed off to Ridgecrest, Ca. friday morning. After teching the truck and doing a once over on the truck, we went to dinner with Riot Racing and went over some last minute pit strategies.

     Race Day:

The next morning we got up and headed to the track at 5:30 am. After setting up the pits and warming up the truck we suited up and headed to the start line. Leaving 1st off the line in class gave us the slight advantage with dust. We held off our position throughout lap 1. We knew it was a long race so we decided to come in after the first lap and do a quick check on everything and look for leaks, dented wheels, slashed tires, ect. We also decided to throw fuel in there so we can calculate our fuel mileage for that terrain. In all it only took about 45 seconds to get them back out on the track. We went out onto lap 2 still in the lead! During lap 2 as they were heading within 10 miles of the Main pit, they got passed by 2nd place. It wasn’t a big deal, the race wasn’t even half over.  We came in the Main Pit only 35 seconds behind 1st place. We did a driver change, fuel and quick check up on everything again. This time taking almost 2 minutes with some driver changing issues. Got them back on the road and shortly after that they reported they were back in the lead!. Not but a few minutes after that we got a call on the radio saying they broke a trailing arm. We were working with the retrievals to get someone out there so we can possibly get it back to the pits and get it welded but with the area they had broke in it took way too much time and unfortunately we were out of time. We had such a good day and running out front for a good portion on the new “Race Style” Ibeam kit, would of been so cool to come home with a 1st place on race proven beams. There’s always Caliente!!! Before leaving for the race, we had scheduled to make a new set of trailing arms for the truck as soon as we got back. Didn’t quite make it….

  The Carnage:

Here is a picture of the trailing arm that was on the truck. Whoever built this arm tried to make an adjustable bushing type of pivot. If you look closely that center piece is actually a 3/4″ bolt that is welded in there and was welded to the bushing. They must have seen it wasn’t going to work and then decided to just add tubes around it. Work of Art!!!
